Biography

The Hockeyroos’ captain since 2009, Madonna Blyth overtook Nikki Hudson’s all-time record of 303 appearances for the Hockeyroos at the 2015 World League Semi Finals in Belgium. Blyth is now known as Australia’s most capped female hockey player on 324 appearances.

In 2014, the two-time Olympian led her team to a World Cup silver medal and Commonwealth Games gold holding her nerve to score the winner in the Commonwealth Games final shoot-out against England. Rated as one of the best players of her generation, she has been named in the World All Stars team on three occasions (2007, 2009 and 2010). Despite achieving more than most people ever will she continues to aspire to fulfil her childhood dream of winning gold at an Olympic Games with her eyes firmly set on the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.

When she gets the rare chance to relax away from the hockey pitch, she enjoys walking her dogs Rawlf and Marley down to her local café and squeezing in a sleep-in on the odd occasion.
