Biography

Since the age of ten, hockey’s always been a part of Simon Orchard’s life, however, the hockey bug didn’t fully catch until Orchard made his first state team appearance belatedly at age 17.

With strong interests in the broadcasting industry, Orchard studies a Bachelor of Commerce with PR and journalism majors. Having worked in local radio stations. Orchard has already begun doing some hockey calling and hopes to continue with broadcasting after hockey.

2015 was a rollercoaster ride for the Australian midfielder, stepping away from hockey for a short period of time to overcome hit battle with anxiety. Blogging about his ‘anxious life’, the elite athlete shared his daily struggles in the hope to raise awareness and educate more people around mental health.

One of the Kookaburras’ keenest golfers with an unofficial handicap of 10, ‘Orch’ also enjoys winding down to live music around Perth. Attending local gigs and watching live musicians, enjoying variety of genres, Orchard steers away from heavy metal.

Lights, camera and action! He is handy with a Go-Pro video camera. Self-taught and with the help of fellow teammates, he edits footage, often capturing behind the scenes moments while on tour.a
