It was a disappointing start to 2015 for Kookaburras defender Jeremy Hayward, who was ruled out of the international action for the first half of the year with a grade three stress fracture in his shin. Returning to the squad in November, Hayward made his comeback at the World League final in Raipur, netting a goal in the final which ultimately helped Australia secure gold.
After being picked up by Dabang Mumbai in 2015 for just over $50,000, Jeremy’s two-year contract saw him return to the Coal Hockey India League earlier this year to re-join the team.
Away from hockey ‘Jez or Jerry’, as he is known to his teammates, enjoys round of golf and loves to hit the gym to “work on his rig”. He’s not afraid to show off his guns on his Instagram feed along with a well-developed tan, carefully cultivated through a sun smart attitude, of course. A music fan, he likes the vibes of a good beat at local music festivals.
Like his Hockeyroo girlfriend, Brooke Peris, Hayward studies a Bachelor of Education degree at Perth’s Murdoch University. Aspiring to become a physical education teacher or coach, he enjoys teaching kids while appreciating the benefit of working outdoors.
