Angie Lambert, OAM

As the second most experienced player in the squad behind Nikki Hudson, Lambert is a vital member of the Hockeyroos team. She is a tall, athletic defender and often provides an important link between attack and defence. Lambert was the youngest player selected in the team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics following her good performance at the 2000 Champions Trophy, her first major tournament. Lambert captained the Australian Junior World Cup team in 2001 and won the prestigious FIH award for International Young Female Player of the Year in 2001. Lambert is married to former Kookburras goalkeeper Stephen Lambert.

How/Why did you get into hockey?

As a school sport, started playing because my friend did

What memories do you have from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games?

I was so grateful to be a part of the Australian team because I had a knee reconstruction 8 months earlier. I was bitterly disappointed to finish 5th but pleased for the Kookaburras Gold

Aside from competing, what are you most looking forward to about the Beijing Olympic Games?

Getting the Australian Olympic team uniform and being apart of village life

What are your post hockey career ambitions?

To have a family and be a good teacher

Hopefully growing bigger and better and receiving the publicity it deserves as a great sport in Australia
