Beaten in heartbreaking fashion in the semi final against the Netherlands in a match that was decided by penalty strokes, the disappointment spurred the Kookaburras to turn in one of their best performances of the tournament in the battle for bronze against Pakistan.

The nature of the Kookaburras’ loss to the Netherlands highlighted the extremely fine line between victory and defeat, but there would be no nail biting repeat in the bronze medal match in front of a packed house at the Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre.
