Further information
- Passion for hockey blossomed after travelling the globe with his family, experiencing ice hockey in Canada. Upon returning home, Tom decided field hockey was the next best thing.
- International career endured a stuttering start after his debut was postponed by 24 hours when officials discovered he only had a New Zealand passport.
- Blessed with blistering pace, he missed only three games in 2018, playing a key part in Australia’s Commonwealth Games and Champions Trophy successes, along with the side’s World Cup bronze medal where he scored a hat-trick against England in the third-place match.
- Made his 100th appearance in the FIH Pro League match against Great Britain in Sydney in 2020.
- Played two seasons for Klein Zwitserland in the Netherlands.
- Brother Ben played for the Kookaburras.
- Started up a podcast called The Help Side, where he speaks with some of the most recognisable names in world hockey.
- Somewhat controversially, after his parents moved to Australia from New Zealand before he was born, Tom is a fan of the New Zealand All Blacks and Kiwi rugby team the Crusaders.

What his teammates say…
“Tom is a very exciting player to watch. He’s fast, agile and creates a lot of chances for us. He would be one of the quickest players in world hockey. Off the pitch, Tom is really intelligent…he loves reading and telling people interesting facts.” Dylan Martin
