Hockey Australia Honours Outstanding Contributors at Annual Awards
Hockey Australia has recognised some of the sport’s most dedicated and influential contributors.

Hockey Australia has recognised some of the sport’s most dedicated and influential contributors, announcing four new Life Members and four recipients of the Award of Merit at its annual AGM.
The awards celebrate individuals whose exceptional service, leadership and commitment have helped shape hockey in Australia across administration, officiating, coaching, governance, high performance and grassroots development.
Life Membership Recipients
Pat Hall (WA)
Pat Hall has been awarded Life Membership in recognition of more than 50 years of outstanding service to hockey in Australia.
Beginning his journey in regional Western Australia and the Air Force, Pat has made a lasting impact at every level of the sport. At Melville City Hockey Club, he played a key role in delivering one of Western Australia’s first community synthetic turf facilities and helped grow the club into one of the largest hockey clubs in the country. He served as Chair and Board Member of Melville Turf Inc between 2002 and 2012.
Pat’s leadership continued through board roles with Hockey WA from 2012 to 2016 and Hockey Australia, where he served as a Board Member and Vice President from 2017 to 2025. During this time, he contributed extensively across governance, finance, risk management and strategic development while working closely with Member Associations across the nation.
Internationally, Pat represented Australian hockey through his engagement with the International Hockey Federation (FIH), contributing to global discussions and supporting major international events.
Dallas Riseley (VIC)
Dallas Riseley has been recognised with Life Membership for his significant contribution to hockey through more than two decades of volunteer service and officiating excellence.
Over a distinguished officiating career spanning more than 16 years, Dallas has held key appointments at Commonwealth Games, FIH Hockey World Cups, Olympic Qualifiers, Hockey World League events and Oceania Cups. He has regularly served as Tournament Director and Technical Delegate at both senior and junior international events.
Within Australia, Dallas has been a trusted leader at National Championships, including the Australian Hockey League and Under 21 Championships, helping ensure the successful delivery of elite competitions while mentoring the next generation of officials.
His extensive involvement with Hockey Victoria, including service as an Investigation Officer and governance contributor over more than 17 years, further reflects his commitment to the sport.
Peri Buckley (TAS)
One of Australia’s most accomplished and respected umpires, Peri Buckley has been awarded Life Membership following a remarkable career and lifetime of service to hockey.
Peri officiated 162 international matches following her international debut in 1986, earning appointments to three Olympic Games, three World Cups, a Commonwealth Games, three Champions Trophy tournaments and two Junior World Cups.
A career highlight came at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games when she umpired the Women’s Gold Medal Match. In 1996, she became the first Australian woman to receive the prestigious FIH Golden Whistle after reaching 100 senior international matches.
Beyond her on-field achievements, Peri has continued to shape the sport through two decades of service on the Hockey Australia Awards Committee from 2005 to 2025.
Judith Barnesby (VIC)
Judith Barnesby has been recognised with Life Membership for her distinguished career as an international umpire and her extensive contribution to hockey governance and officiating development.
After beginning her officiating career in Western Australia, Judith progressed through the ranks to become one of Australia's leading international umpires. She has now been umpiring first grade hockey for approximately 40 years and continues to officiate in Victoria's Premier League, where she has been an active umpire since 1992.
Her international career included officiating more than 100 international matches and appointments at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, multiple Champions Trophy tournaments and the 2002 Women's Hockey World Cup in Perth. In recognition of her outstanding achievements on the world stage, Judith was awarded the prestigious FIH Golden Whistle in 2007 after reaching the milestone of 100 international matches, becoming only the second Australian female umpire to receive the honour.
Beyond her on-field accomplishments, Judith spent 15 years umpiring in Victoria's Premier League while also contributing extensively to governance through 14 years on the Hockey Victoria Board and active involvement in officiating committees.
Since 2008, Judith has continued to give back to the sport through umpiring, coaching, mentoring and developing emerging officials, helping strengthen officiating pathways and standards across Australia.
Her lasting impact across officiating, governance and development has strengthened hockey in Australia and continues to support the next generation of umpires.
Award of Merit Recipients
Barry Cibich (SA)
Barry Cibich has been awarded the Hockey Australia Award of Merit in recognition of his outstanding contribution across playing, coaching and high-performance leadership.
A former Australian representative #245 and 1978 World Cup bronze medallist, Barry has dedicated decades to developing players and programs across South Australia through coaching, selection and administration roles.
Nationally, Barry made a significant impact through his work with the Australian Institute of Sport and as Assistant Coach of the Kookaburras at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. His coaching expertise also extended internationally through appointments in Scotland.
Barry's coaching expertise was also acknowledged with two publications in the journal "SPORTS COACH". His involvement in coach education has therefore ensured a lasting legacy across all levels of the sport."
Martin Ferrari (WA)
Martin Ferrari has been recognised with the Award of Merit for his exceptional service to hockey through high-performance leadership and longstanding involvement in Masters hockey.
Widely respected for his role as Team Manager of the Kookaburras, Martin has overseen team operations at some of the sport’s biggest international events, including World Cups, Champions Trophy tournaments and Hockey World League Finals.
His expertise in managing elite environments, supporting athlete wellbeing and fostering strong team cultures has been instrumental in Australia's success on the international stage.
Martin has also contributed significantly to Masters hockey over more than 25 years as a player, administrator and committee member, helping expand opportunities for athletes across Australia and internationally.
Jane McNeill (NSW)
Jane McNeil has received the Award of Merit following more than 40 years of dedicated volunteer service to hockey.
A passionate contributor to the Manning hockey community, Jane has held numerous leadership positions including President of the Women’s Association, Umpire Director and board member, while also remaining actively involved as a coach, umpire and mentor.
Her contribution to Masters hockey has been exceptional playing for NSW for 16 years and with more than 24 years of service as a sports trainer and massage therapist supporting state and Australian teams, often volunteering her time and expertise.
Jane has also played a significant role as a Technical Official across numerous state tournaments, helping strengthen competitions and player pathways.
Karin Walduck (QLD)
Karin Walduck has been recognised with the Award of Merit for more than three decades of leadership, governance and volunteer service to hockey.
As President of Hockey Queensland from 2008 to 2016 and long-serving leader of the Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association, Karin has played a pivotal role in growing participation, strengthening governance and advancing opportunities for women’s hockey.
Her contribution to Masters hockey has also been extensive, including delegate roles, championship coordination and contingent leadership at national and international events.
A recipient of numerous honours, including the Medal of the Order of Australia, Karin’s dedication, vision and leadership continue to have a profound impact on hockey communities across Queensland and Australia.
The recipients recognised this year represent the very best of Australian hockey. Through decades of dedication, leadership and service, they have strengthened the sport at every level and created lasting opportunities for future generations.
