Junior Hockey

Junior hockey is played in every state and territory across Australia, offering children between the ages of 5 and 18 the chance to learn the sport, develop their skills, technical and tactical understanding, and play competitively.

As well as learning the sport itself, playing hockey is a great way to teach children skills for life, including teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.

It is easy to get involved and many hockey clubs will offer new junior players the chance to borrow a hockey stick if they don’t have one of their own. For children aged 10 and under, Hockey Australia has created Hookin2Hockey, a fun introduction to the sport.

Each state and territory offers different grades and levels of competition with most junior competitions run in the winter period (term two/term three).

For more information about junior hockey in your area please contact your state/territory association or visit our club finder to discover and register with your nearest hockey association/club.

At national level, Hockey Australia runs Australian Championships at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18 age groups in which young hockey players represent their state or territory.
