Women's Masters Championships

Next up is the 2026 Women's Masters Championships
Venue: State Hockey Centre, Adelaide, SA
Dates: T1 - Women: 24 September - 3 October 2026, State Hockey Centre, Adelaide, SA

The inaugural Australian Women’s Veterans Championships were held in 1985 in Melbourne following a 3-day carnival in Canberra in 1984. The ACTHA hosted an invitational tournament with teams from ACT, NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.

Players were so keen to continue the concept of veterans hockey that a motion passed at a dinner voted to make the tournament an annual event. Victoria offered to host the next tournament and invite participants from every state/territory.

The response was overwhelming. Two divisions were established, with the larger states sending teams for both divisions.

From 1989 the divisions became age qualified, with an over 35 division and an over 40 division. In 1994 an over 45 division was added, 1998 an over 50 division, 2003 a 55s division and in Hobart in 2009 a 60s division.

In 2011 the name was changed to the Australian Women’s Masters Championships to align with international recognition. A 65s division was introduced in Hobart 2016 and 70+ was added in 2023. Current age divisions at Women's Masters Championships are 34+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+.

Australian Women's Masters teams are selected from the championships to compete in Masters World Cup, Trans Tasman or other touring events as available.
