Griffith to host 2027 Hockey Australia Country Championships

Hockey Australia is pleased to announce that Griffith, New South Wales, will host the 2027 Hockey Australia Country Championships, with the nation's premier regional hockey tournament to be played from Saturday 7 August to Saturday 14 August 2027 at the Griffith Regional Sports Centre.

The week-long championships will bring together the country's best regional and country hockey players, officials and supporters, showcasing the strength and passion of hockey communities from across Australia.

The event is expected to deliver significant economic and community benefits for Griffith, with hundreds of players, officials, volunteers and supporters travelling to the region across the eight-day championship.

Griffith City Council, a key funding partner and supporter of the event, welcomed the opportunity to showcase the region on the national stage.

Griffith Mayor Doug Curran said hosting the championships would provide benefits across the region while highlighting Griffith's credentials as a leading sporting destination.

“The Hockey Australia Country Championships will bring hundreds of visitors to Griffith, providing a welcome boost to our local tourism, hospitality and retail sectors,” Mayor Curran said.

“We're proud to showcase the state-of-the-art hockey facilities at Griffith Regional Sports Centre, which has cemented Griffith's reputation as a leading destination for regional sporting events.

“We encourage visitors to stay a little longer, explore our award-winning food and wine experiences, enjoy our local attractions and discover the best of what our region has to offer while cheering on some outstanding hockey.”

Griffith Hockey Association, the local delivery partner for the event, said the championships would be a landmark occasion for hockey in the region.

Griffith Hockey Association President Sallie Cowie said securing the championships was a significant achievement for the region and its hockey community.

“Securing an event of this calibre is a significant achievement for Griffith and a proud moment for our local hockey community,” Cowie said.

“It provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the quality of our facilities while creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for both visitors and the wider regional community at a time when strengthening community sport is more important than ever.

“Hosting the championship will give our local players and the broader community invaluable exposure to high-level hockey, helping to inspire growth and participation across the region.

“We are grateful to Griffith City Council and Hockey Australia for their support in bringing this event to Griffith in 2027.”

Hockey Australia looks forward to working closely with Griffith City Council, Griffith Hockey Association and local stakeholders over the coming months as planning continues for the 2027 Championships.
