Hockey Australia is inviting Kookaburras and Hockeyroos alumni to reconnect with each other and the organisation through the launch of the Chat with the Chair series, a new initiative designed to provide regular updates on the future direction of Hockey Australia.

The twice-yearly series will offer alumni an inside look at the work being undertaken across Hockey Australia, including strategic priorities, high-performance initiatives, participation, fan-based deliverables and the organisation's long-term strategic direction past Brisbane 2032 to 2035.

Hockey Australia President Sally Carbon (Hockeyroo #324) said the series would strengthen the connection between Hockey Australia and the players who have represented Australia on the international stage.

"Hockey Australia’s alumni have created the now well-known and admired Kookaburras and Hockeyroos name, therefore the alumni’s experience and insight remain incredibly valuable to our sport," Carbon said.

“The Board of Hockey Australia would be grateful to hear more, and be challenged further by our alumni through this insightful initiative – all in the name of short term improvement and then longer-term success to Brisbane in 2032 on the podium.”

"The Chat with the Chair series is about keeping our former Kookaburras and Hockeyroos connected with the work taking place across Hockey Australia, while creating an opportunity for genuine conversation about where our game is heading."

The launch of the series follows Hockey Australia's confirmation of continued Federal Government investment through the Win Well (high performance) and Play Well (participation) funding programs. As the organisation works towards its strategic ambition of consistently ranking among the world's top three hockey nations, the series will provide alumni with greater visibility of the initiatives driving that progress.

The inaugural session will include updates on Hockey Australia's Strategic Direction and Strategic Plan, as well as key high-performance initiatives including expanded national squads, athlete depth tracking, the Hockey Australia Talent Accelerator 2032 and the transition towards an Australia-wide Centre of Excellence model.

The first Chat with the Chair series session will run for one hour and will include:

• 15 minutes – Hockey Australia, Kookaburras, Hockeyroos and Pathway insights.

• 15 minutes – Updates on major strategic initiatives and key organisational deliverables.

• 20 minutes – Q&A and perspective sharing with alumni.

The series has been established to ensure Hockey Australia's alumni remain informed, engaged and connected as the sport continues to evolve.
