Hockey Australia has announced a new three-year partnership with HITIQ, a sports technology company specialising in smart mouthguard systems, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to participant safety, education and innovation across the sport.

The partnership will see HITIQ’s PROTEQT system integrated across Hockey Australia’s pathway, from grassroots participants through to elite programs, providing players and families with greater player protection an insights into head impact exposure and injury management.

Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles said the partnership represented an important step forward in supporting the wellbeing of the hockey community.

“This partnership with HITIQ aligns strongly with our responsibility to provide safe, informed and progressive environments for everyone involved in hockey,” Pryles said. “By integrating education, technology and access at all levels of the game, we are empowering players and families with tools that support smarter decisions around head safety.”

As part of the agreement, HITIQ will have a presence at Hockey Australia-run events including National Championships, where dedicated education sessions will be delivered to participant families. These sessions will focus on reinforcing the benefits of using the PROTEQT system, increasing awareness around head safety, and supporting informed decision-making for players at all levels.

"We're thrilled to partner with Hockey Australia as their exclusive Official Player Safety Partner," said Earl Eddings, Executive Chair of HITIQ.

“Hockey Australia's commitment to participant wellbeing across all levels of the sport aligns perfectly with our mission.

This partnership enables us to deploy world-class brain-health monitoring technology from grassroots through to the elite Hockeyroos and Kookaburras programs. Together, we're setting a new benchmark for player safety in Australian sport."

A key pillar of the partnership is a national member offer, with the HITIQ PROTEQT system available to all registered Hockey Australia participants at a heavily reduced rate. The offer will be communicated direct to participants ensuring every registrant has a clear and accessible pathway to redeem the discounted equipment.

Pryles said the accessibility of the system was a major focus of the partnership.
“Making this technology available to all registered participants at a significantly reduced cost ensures that head impact monitoring is not limited to elite environments,” he said.

“It’s about creating consistent standards of care and education across our sport, from grassroots to high performance.”

The partnership also provides Hockeyroos and Kookaburra squad members with access to the cutting-edge technology and all players can be equipped with the PROTEQT system to use in training and games.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment between Hockey Australia and HITIQ to enhance participant wellbeing, deliver meaningful education, and support safer sporting environments across all levels of the game.

Hockey Australia’s commercial program continues to go from strength to strength, with several major renewals and exciting new additions in 2025. Longstanding partners Kookaburra, APM, Hirudoid, ASICS & Kumho have reaffirmed their commitment to Australian hockey. A wave of new partnerships includes Polytan, Sportscover, Australian Venue Co, PWG, Match Worn Shirt, Automatorr, BildGroup, Musco Sports Lighting, Roll’d and now HITIQ demonstrates growing confidence in the sport’s direction.
