Australia entered the contest looking to challenge one of the world's strongest sides, but the Dutch struck early when Guusje Moes found the back of the net in the fifth minute to hand her side the advantage.
With temperatures soaring in Belgium, both teams paused for a hydration break during the opening quarter before the Netherlands doubled their lead shortly after play resumed. Pien Dicke capitalised on a penalty corner breakdown in the 13th minute to make it 2-0 at quarter-time.
Despite the scoreboard, the Hockeyroos continued to press forward and created attacking opportunities, asking questions of the Dutch defence but were unable to convert their chances.
The Netherlands extended their lead early in the second quarter after being awarded a penalty stroke, converting from the spot before Yibbi Jansen added a fourth with one of her trademark drag flicks from a penalty corner. The Dutch took a 4-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Australia continued to battle throughout the second half against relentless Dutch pressure, but Dicke added her second field goal of the match in the 33rd minute before the Netherlands rounded out the scoring with a sixth goal in the 54th minute.

While the result didn't go Australia's way, the Hockeyroos will quickly shift their focus to their next Pro League assignment as they prepare to take on Belgium on Saturday in Wavre.
