Hockey Australia Masters is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Contingent Manager for the proposed 2027 Trans Tasman Challenge tour to New Zealand.
The tour is expected to take place in New Zealand in May 2027. Further details, including the confirmed dates and locations, will be communicated as planning progresses.
The Australian playing and officials contingent is expected to include more than 400 participants, making this a significant international tour requiring strong planning, coordination and operational leadership.
About the role
The Contingent Manager will provide operational leadership across the full lifecycle of the tour, from early planning and preparation through to onsite delivery and post-tour review.
This is not solely an onsite tour position. The successful applicant will be actively involved in the months leading into the event, working with the Hockey Australia Masters Committee National Teams Pillar Group, Hockey Australia staff, team managers and other key personnel to ensure the contingent is properly prepared, informed and supported.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Leading pre-tour operational planning and readiness
- Coordinating travel, accommodation, transport and other tour logistics
- Developing and maintaining operational plans, timelines and communications
- Supporting and coordinating team managers across the contingent
- Preparing participant briefings, handbooks and key tour information
- Managing operational risks, incidents and contingency arrangements
- Acting as the senior onsite representative for the Australian contingent
- Supporting consistent standards of conduct, welfare and professionalism
- Providing a comprehensive post-tour report and recommendations
The role requires strong leadership, organisation, communication and decision-making skills, together with the ability to coordinate a large and complex international sporting contingent.
Previous experience in tour management, event operations, team management or national and international sporting programs will be highly regarded.
Remuneration and expenses
The position is voluntary. Hockey Australia Masters will provide an honorarium and/or cover approved role-related expenses, subject to the approved tour budget and applicable Hockey Australia and HAMC procedures.
Specific financial support and reimbursement arrangements will be confirmed with the successful applicant prior to appointment.
