Australia’s Hockeyroos have secured a strong 3-0 victory over Switzerland, producing a composed and clinical performance to continue their strong form.
The Hockeyroos wasted no time asserting control, opening the scoring in just the 8th minute of the first quarter. Neasa Flynn was the architect and finisher, finding space inside the circle before striking a well-taken field goal to give Australia the early advantage.
Switzerland responded with intent, tightening their defensive structure and forcing Australia to work hard for circle entries. The second quarter developed into a disciplined arm wrestle, with both sides contesting possession fiercely through the midfield.
Despite several promising passages of play, neither team was able to add to the scoreboard. Australia took a slender 1-0 lead into the main break.
The third quarter followed a similar script, with both defences standing tall. The Hockeyroos controlled territory for long stretches but were met by a resolute Swiss backline, while Australia’s defensive unit ensured Switzerland were limited in their attacking opportunities.
The breakthrough that put the game beyond doubt came in the final quarter. In the 51st minute, Flynn struck again, securing her second goal of the afternoon to double Australia’s lead and reward the sustained pressure.
With momentum firmly in their favour, the Hockeyroos sealed the result five minutes later. Mihaylia Howell put the finishing touch on a solid performance, converting a field goal in the 56th minute to extend the margin to three.
Australia closed out the match with composure, maintaining their defensive discipline to secure a clean sheet and a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
