Kookaburras fight back to stun Argentina in London
The Kookaburras have produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Argentina 3-2 in their second clash in as many days in London, overturning a two-goal deficit with a late Nathan Ephraums winner.
Argentina made a fast start, opening the scoring in just the second minute when Tomas Domene capitalised on a rebound from open play to give Argentina an early advantage.
The Kookaburras were immediately under pressure as Argentine goalkeeper Tomas Santiago produced a pair of important saves before Lautaro Domene doubled the lead in the sixth minute. His drag flick took a deflection off an Australian runner and flew into the roof of the net, putting Argentina ahead 2-0.
Australia responded strongly in the second quarter and found a way back into the contest through Nathan Ephraums in the 26th minute. A quick transition saw Ky Willott deliver a pinpoint pass under pressure, with Ephraums meeting it first time to fire home and reduce the margin to one.
The Kookaburras continued to create opportunities before half-time, but Santiago stood tall in goal to help Argentina take a 2-1 lead into the main break.
A physical third quarter saw neither side add to the scoreboard, with several heavy collisions highlighting the intensity of the contest. Australia gradually began to take control and their persistence was rewarded in the 50th minute when Tom Craig produced a brilliant deflection from a penalty corner variation to level the scores at 2-2.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Kookaburras continued to press forward and found the winner with just one minute remaining. Ephraums was again in the right place at the right time, expertly deflecting home from close range in the 59th minute to complete the comeback and secure a memorable 3-2 victory.
Ephraums was named Player of the Match following his match-winning double.
"We left a couple out there the last few days and were pretty disappointed with ourselves," Ephraums said.
"To come back and rebound with that nice hard-fought win we're super stoked."

Hockeyroos fall to Germany in second London clash
The Hockeyroos have gone down 5-1 to Germany in their second meeting in as many days in London, with the hosts capitalising on a fast start to level the two-match series.
Germany raced out of the blocks, scoring three goals in a damaging four-minute period during the opening quarter.
The breakthrough came in the eighth minute when Jette Fleschütz converted a penalty stroke into the bottom left corner before Johanna Hachenberg doubled Germany's advantage moments later, pouncing on a loose ball in the circle and flicking home.
Germany struck again just two minutes later through Felicia Wiedermann, who applied the finishing touch to a scrappy attacking passage to give her side a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Hockeyroos responded in the second quarter and found a way back into the contest through Liv Downes. A clever attacking move saw Steph Kershaw create the opportunity, with Downes getting the final touch to steer the ball home and reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Australia continued to battle hard but Germany regained control after half-time. Lisa Nolte restored the three-goal buffer in the 40th minute when her penalty corner strike took a deflection off an Australian defender before finding the roof of the net.
Nolte added her second goal of the match just before the final break, converting another penalty corner to extend Germany's lead to 5-1.
Despite continuing to create opportunities in the final quarter, the Hockeyroos were unable to add to their tally as Germany claimed the victory.
