2026 Australian Men’s Masters Championships heading to the Gold Coast

Published Fri 24 Oct 2025

The 2026 edition of Australian hockey’s largest participation event, the national Men’s Masters Championships, will take place on the Gold Coast from Friday 25 September to Saturday 10 October.

Hockey players aged 34 and over from across Australia will converge on the Gold Coast Hockey Centre, the same venue set to host hockey at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics as well as the Gold Coast Performance Centre.

This year’s Men’s Masters Championships in Newcastle featured 99 teams across 17 competitions and ten age divisions, ranging from 34+ up to 80+.

“We are very excited to be bringing the Men’s Masters Championships back to the 2032 Olympics hockey venue,” said Hockey Australia Chief Events Officer Simon Butterly.

“The event continues to grow each year and showcases hockey as a sport for life, with participants aged from 34 all the way to 89.

“We thank Tourism & Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast and the Hockey Australia Masters Committee for their collaboration in selecting this year’s host location.

“We always enjoy bringing hockey events to Queensland and know that participants in our national championships love making the trip.”

Queensland Minister for Sport, Tim Mander said “The Hockey Men’s Masters Championships are a treasured part of Australia’s sporting landscape and we’re thrilled to welcome them back to Queensland in 2026.

“This event is more than a competition, it’s a celebration of camaraderie, the hockey community and the love of the game.

“Seeing players and supporters from every corner of the country come together at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre, the hockey venue for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be truly inspiring.

“Beyond the action on the field, the championships will showcase Queensland to a broad audience, delivering unforgettable experiences for visitors, while providing an expected boost of more than $8 million to our local tourism economy from more than 2,300 visitors.”

Gold Coast Acting Mayor Mark Hammel also recognises the importance of bringing hockey events to Gold Coast in the lead up to 2032 Olympics.

“Hosting the hockey masters underscores our city’s commitment to staging the best sporting carnivals on offer,’’ said Gold Coast Acting Mayor Mark Hammel.

“In 2032, the world’s eyes will be on the coast as we host the Olympics and Paralympic hockey tournaments. I urge Gold Coasters to get down to our world-class GC Hockey Centre and cheer on the best masters athletes in Australia. Congratulations to Hockey Australia for backing our city.’’

The 2026 Australian Men’s Masters Championships is supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland.
