Senior Hockey
A sport for all ages, senior hockey generally describes hockey played by anyone over the age of 16. Senior hockey is played in every state and territory across Australia, most commonly in organised clubs although other routes might include company teams and social leagues and competitions. Teams and competitions are most commonly played as single gender (i.e. men’s competitions, women’s competitions, men’s teams, women’s teams) although mixed-gender teams and competitions can also be found.
Senior outdoor competitions in Australia generally run during winter, although the exact dates may differ across states or territories. Many states and territories also run summer and indoor hockey competitions allowing the sport to be played all year round.
Each state and territory offers different grades and levels of competition, from recreational social hockey to elite club level competitions. Hockey clubs cater for a diverse range of abilities and competition standards with most clubs fielding multiple teams in different competitions each week.
