UPDATE - 2024 HOCKEY AUSTRALIA MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

An information update about the dates for 2024 Masters Championships has today been shared with HA Masters Delegates, State CEOs and Offices - Update - 2024 Hockey Australia Masters Championships.

15 October 2023
2023 MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS - INAUGURAL MEN'S 80+ COMPETITION

HAMC congratulates members of the Men’s 80+ teams who competed in the inaugural 80+ Masters Men’s Competition in Perth. The 80+ Men are building towards a Championship in this age group and will hope to add at least one more team in 2024.

In 2023, teams from Victoria, Western Australia and Western Australia Country competed in a round robin format. These gentlemen were absolute legends to watch with a great deal of camaraderie on display while being competitive at this level. Victoria took out the honours for this year after drawing the Grand final v WA at 1-1. This meant the match went to strokes where Vic managed 4 goals to WA’s 3 for the win.

These men are leading the way in staying involved and giving back to the sport that they love. Congratulations to all involved.

15 October 2023
2023 MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS - INAUGURAL WOMEN'S 70+ CHAMPIONSHIP

HAMC congratulates members of the Women’s 70+ teams who competed in the inaugural 70+ Masters Women’s Championship in Perth. Teams from New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory competed strongly and provided a showcase of what can be achieved – at every age.

All participants enjoyed the opportunity to compete against players of their own age range and all matches were hard fought with NSW somehow having the knowhow to create and finish those goal scoring opportunities, finishing off the Grand Final with 2-0 against Vic. Great camaraderie was on display throughout the championship. Congratulations to all involved.

BENEFITS OF BEING INVOLVED IN MASTERS HOCKEY AS AN OFFICIAL

While the position of a hockey official can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding. You get to work closely with other officials, coaches, and players, building relationships and contributing to the hockey community.

If you're passionate about hockey and looking for another way to be involved in the sport, consider becoming a Masters hockey official. You'll be part of a community of dedicated individuals who share your love for the game, and you'll have the chance to make a real impact on the sport you love.

For those already involved:

· Improve your skills under tutelage of qualified Umpire Managers.

· Participate in games that match your ability under National Championship Competition Rules.

· Learn new skills by watching high quality games in lower age groups.

· Challenge yourself to be able to competently adjudicate Lower Age Group games that you have not been previously involved in.

· Develop skills required for Umpire Coaching.

For new Umpires at this Level:

· Improve your skills under tutelage of qualified Umpire Managers.

· Umpire at levels that may be higher than you normally do.

· Depending on performance, the opportunity is there to travel with National Masters Teams and Umpire at International Events including Masters World    Cups.

· For Umpires who find that they may not be able to maintain their performances at National Under Age and Country Championships, Masters can offer
  an alternate Pathway.

· Many games in the Lower Masters Age Groups are very competitive and similar standard to many Under Age Championships. Working with older players
requires different management skills which will develop your personal performance.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SURVEY 2022
Opportunity to influence decision making

At the beginning of 2022 members of the Masters community participated in a survey which led to the establishment of the 'One Masters' brand for which the tenets are Passion, Participation, Performance, and Partnerships.

The survey respondents raised concerns around the delivery of our National Championships.  This led to a project brief being developed to examine the current event delivery model in terms of scheduling during the year, format, bundling of age competitions and duration of the events.
The project is seeking opinions and suggestions from 2022 Championship participants and this survey will form an important part of the process.
It is estimated it will take you about 15 minutes to provide your feedback on match formats, timing and duration of championships, other masters events, etc.

Women's masters participants who haven't yet responded to their survey email should do so by Friday 9 December.

Men's Masters Players and Officials who attended the Men's Masters National Championships on the Gold Coast will be receiving an email with a link to the men's survey.  If you wish to contribute and do not receive an email, please click here to be involved National Championships Survey Men
The survey will remain open until Friday 9 December.

Thank you in advance  for contributing to the One Masters project.
One Masters - the journey continues.

1 December 2022
HOCKEY AUSTRALIA MASTERS COMMITTEE REVAMP LEADING INTO 2023
One Masters, the journey continues

A multi faceted internal review of Hockey Australia Masters Committee (HAMC) and its Operational Groups based on 2022 operations has resulted in identification of changes to be implemented to provide a better use of volunteer resources.

The remodelled structure of HAMC will result in a more focused approach to operations, improved linkages at the different levels and contribute to greater efficiencies.  It will also continue to align the women’s and men’s processes and breakdown gender specific cultures in delivery of the ‘One Masters’ brand and its tenets of Passion, Participation, Performance and Partnerships.

The Engagement and Communication position will not maintained in the new structure and the Transition Implementation position is at the end of its term.  An Administration and Communication position has been created to support the overall operations of HAMC.

The Member Association (MA) Representatives found it difficult to represent the views of the Masters Delegates due to a variety of differences in MA (State/Territory) Masters operations.  This was also evident in feedback from the MA Delegates, resulting in reconsideration of these positions.  HAMC Chair, Sue Briggs has stated that “Communication with the MA Delegates is imperative, and we have still not done this well enough. We have to look at other ways to engage with the MA Delegates in order to better deliver the One Masters program”.

A Member Association CEO representative on HAMC has been recommended, to provide an increased awareness and promotion of Masters community activities to their CEO colleagues.

The Men's and Women's Operational Groups that are responsible for delivery of HAMC activities will be remodelled into 3 Pillar groups:  Events and Officiating, National Teams, and Growth and Promotion.  This model will spread the load in the areas that are most prevalent in the operations of Masters Hockey.   To maximise connectivity across the Pillar Groups and to HAMC, the Convenor of each Pillar Group will be a member of HAMC.
The Pillar Groups are another move towards breaking down the gender specific cultures and each Pillar Group will have a gender balance principle built into them.

An expression of interest process will occur in December with a view for the new structure to be operational by January 2023.
